Today’s generation doesn’t go for bringing along bulky equipment. Boy Scouts and campers in general bring only what’s necessary to enjoy the great outdoors. It is a lot easier to bring along light mesh nylon tents and other lightweight camping equipment. That way, you can get to that choice camping spot, still fresh after lugging all that equipment.
Even in knives and other sharp objects, most camping sites are patrolled and safe and there’s no need to bring along big knives. And let’s face it, the Bowie knife is heavy. Folding pocket knives do a handy job as well as any big knife. Camp sites are really no place for the machete.
Folding pocket knives come in a wide range and dizzying variety of size and other choices. For all intents and purposes, if you only need one which can cut rope and double as a can opener, palm-sized folding pocket knives would do the trick. Yes, they do fit nicely in any pocket.
